$500,000 Durham grant for fighting poverty for 12
The Region of Durham said it is investing in non-profit organizations that help prevent and/or reduce poverty for Durham Region residents.
The almost $500,000 investment comes via the Thriving Communities Fund, which supports programs and services that address food security, mental health, and addictions; meet the needs of vulnerable populations, such as seniors and children; and improves local employment opportunities, said a region statement.
The Thriving Communities Fund also supports capacity building efforts in the non-profit sector, such as the development of strategic plans and fundraising strategies that will help sustain non-profit organizations for the long term.
