$500,000 Durham grant for fighting poverty for 12

The Region of Durham said it is investing in non-profit organizations that help prevent and/or reduce poverty for Durham Region residents.

The almost $500,000 investment comes via the Thriving Communities Fund, which supports programs and services that address food security, mental health, and addictions; meet the needs of vulnerable populations, such as seniors and children; and improves local employment opportunities, said a region statement.

The Thriving Communities Fund also supports capacity building efforts in the non-profit sector, such as the development of strategic plans and fundraising strategies that will help sustain non-profit organizations for the long term.

The following organizations have been awarded funding:

  • Blue Door
  • Community Development Council Durham
  • Feed the Need in Durham
  • Durham Community Action Group
  • Back Door Mission for the Relief of Poverty
  • AIDS Committee of Durham Region
  • Bowmanville Older Adults Association
  • Girls Inc. Durham
  • Brock Community Food Bank
  • Christian Faith Outreach Centre
  • Redemption House of Recovery
  • Durham Workforce Authority
